The New England Chapter for Concerns of Police Survivors

In mid-August 1994, my younger brother was killed in the line of duty as a Massachusetts State Trooper. C.O.P.S formed shortly thereafter and with their support, my family was able to recover from this tragic event. This year it was METRO BOSTON PROPERTY INSPECTIONS’ pleasure to be able to provide 150 M&M filled candy canes to support the C.O.P.S. Christmas Party.

Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc., also known as C.O.P.S., is a nationwide non-profit 501(c)(3) organization providing resources to assist in the rebuilding of the lives of survivors of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty as determined by Federal government criteria. The New England Chapter supports survivors in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The New England Chapter of C.O.P.S. began its mission in July, 1995. Each year, between 140 and 160 officers are killed nationally in the line of duty and their families and co-workers are left to cope with the tragic loss. The national and local chapters of C.O.P.S. provide resources to help them rebuild their shattered lives. There is no membership fee to join C.O.P.S. – the price paid is already too high.

Aside from our occasional fundraisers (like our fun annual golf tournament), we rely on donations from supportive organizations, businesses, and individuals. Operation American Soldier

Mission statement:

Operation American Soldier exists to support and encourage the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen/women of the United States Armed Forces. Our goal is to “Let no one walk away from mail call empty handed”. As long as there are wars/conflicts in which our troops serve, Operation American Soldier will ship “care boxes”.

We are limited only by our finances and donations. We began at the start of the war on terror. To date we have provided more than 1000 members of the Armed Forces with support from home. We have received numerous letters of gratitude from the recipients. Each box contains an assortment of snacks, beverages, coffees/teas, books, magazines, toiletries, and letters of support, games and fun items. We receive some donations from the community, friends & family. Shipping costs are a major factor in our operation. OAS (Operation American Soldier) is based in our home. 100% of the donations, financial and material go directly to the troops.

2008 is the first year that OAS has been 501 c compliant. Prior to 2008 we were self contained (self supporting). We have always shopped and shipped as our budget would allow. The need for support to our troops is much larger that we can handle on our own. Many of our troops receive NO support from home.
