Myth #1: Only basement homes have radon. Truth: All homes, no matter if there is a crawl space, a finished or unfinished basement, or a slab, can have radon gas problems.
Myth #2-: Its expensive to have a radon gas problem fixed! Truth: For about $1,200 to $ 2,000, a radon mitigation system can be installed.
Myth #3: None of my neighbors has radon gas, so I don’t either! Truth: Whether or not your neighbor has radon has no impact on the radon levels in your home.
Myth #4: Radon gas testing levels are always the same during the 48-hour testing period. Radon gas levels in the home can fluctuate due to weather and pressure changes, temperature differences, HVAC operation, soil conditions, and daily air movement.
Myth #5: Massachusetts Is Not At Risk For Radon Gas Truth: Much of Massachusetts is In Zone 1, the zone with the highest potential for elevated radon. Average indoor radon levels may exceed 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter).a
Myth #6: Our home is new, so we can’t have radon Gas! Truth: Old homes, new homes, drafty homes, and well-sealed homes all can have radon. In Massachusetts, new construction homes are required to ihave a passive radon mitigation system installed.
